Giving with one hand taking away with the other – Media Release 08/05/2014

Brand new cars for intercity rail services, says Gladys Berejiklian.

Sounded like a good news story!!

Upgrading the intercity services with comfortable new cars should be great news for Newcastle, because we have a great intercity service running right into the heart of the city. This will help Government reach the transport target of increasing patronage to Newcastle CBD by 20% by 2016. GOOD WORK MINISTER!

But what if the service is truncated and no longer runs to Newcastle?

Taking at least 20 minutes longer to get into Newcastle will not be overcome by new carriages. Changing to buses at Broadmeadow! Forget it we’ll get in the car.

Who cares about the targets? Why did the Government set targets, then decide to cut the rail line?

Further good news – a revival of the train manufacturing in Newcastle surely!

Forget it they are going to bought “off the shelf” – from overseas?

Gladys Berejiklian has twice said she can’t wait to “get down and dirty” on projects in the Hunter.

Dear Gladys, forget the “down and dirty” there’s enough of that being unearthed in ICAC.

Save Our Rail would welcome the new carriages and the “best outcome for customers” but we are sceptical. Is this just a good news story to cover up for the down side of the revelations coming out daily from ICAC?
