Baird govt to release documents regarding Newcastle rail line truncation

As reported by ABC News Newcastle, the New South Wales Greens say they have forced the Baird Government to release key documents associated with its decision to truncate Newcastle’s inner-city rail line on Boxing Day.

Greens MP and transport spokeswoman Mehreen Faruqi says it is crucial the community gets to see the cost-benefit analysis, as well as other transport planning documents.

She says she suspects the papers will reveal there is “no business or public transport case for cutting the line”.

Dr Faruqi said the documents must be released within 14 days.

“Today the Greens have forced the government to make public key documents that will shed light on what evidence and rationale was used to justify the truncation of the Newcastle rail line,” she said.

“It will help uncover the some of the secret decision-making which has taken place behind closed doors.”

Dr Faruqi said the truncation is all about a land grab for developers.
