“Skytrain” in Sydney – why not in Newcastle?

Newcastle’s different. In 2008 when SOR proposed a SkyTrain to cross Stewart Av at Wickham the idea was dismissed by the NSW Govt and Hunter Development Corporation.

Are you aware that the new North West Rail Link “skytrain” will run above ground for 4 km between Kellyville and Rouse Hill? And that the contracted price is $340 million? And that a new cable-stay bridge over Windsor Road will be an iconic landmark for the North West?

What does Newcastle get? An oversized carport at Wickham promising that “the design of the transport interchange allows for the future provision of light rail”. What weasel words. The project to terminate the rail is INDEPENDENT of any future light rail.

All rail services to Newcastle are to be cut from Boxing Day terminating at BROADMEADOW. Wickham station won’t see another train for 2-3 years, if ever again!
